Combined and sequential procedures with phaco, vitrectomy yield similar results

Surgery for idiopathic epiretinal membrane is equally effective when pars plana vitrectomy and cataract surgery are performed sequentially or in combination, according to a study. However, the authors highlighted some differences they found in the follow-up according to the strategy adopted. Sixty-two eyes of 62 patients with idiopathic epiretinal membrane were included, of which 20 underwent combined phacovitrectomy (COMBI group), 23 underwent sequential surgery with phacoemulsification first (CAT group) and 19 underwent sequential surgery with PPV first (VIT group).
