Norman Jaffe, pioneer of IOL implantation, dies at 90

Norman Jaffe, MD, known for his contributions to IOL implantation techniques and education, has died. He was 90 years old. Jaffe was the founder of the Jaffe Eye Institute, a founder and president of the American Intraocular Implant Society, and a clinical professor at the University of Miami. He specialized in cataract surgery.Jaffe was one of a few surgeons to begin performing IOL implantation in cataract surgery, first performing the technique in 1967 and subsequently teaching the technique to thousands of ophthalmologists.
