Corneal surgeon William Culbertson, MD of Bascom Palmer Eye Institute speaks with David Goldman, MD, refractive editor of OphthalmologyWeb. Dr. Culbertson describes the use of femtosecond lasers in penetrating keratoplasty to create an interlocking link between corneal donor graft tissue and recipient, eg, "top hat" shape. This year's AAO meeting also featured techniques for anterior lamellar keratoplasty with femtosecond lasers for the treatment of anterior corneal pathology, and the creation posterior lenticules for Descemet stripping endothelial keratoplasty procedures - DSEK.
