OCT imaging enables creation of RNFL, macular thickness norms for children

Optical coherence tomography images were used to generate measurement standards for macular thickness, peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer thickness and retinal layer thickness in children, according to a study. The prospective study included 83 healthy children aged 5 to 15 years. The Spectralis spectral domain OCT system (Heidelberg Engineering) was used to assess peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness and macular thickness in one eye of each child.
