Glaucoma reoperation rates higher following trabeculectomy than tube shunt

Reoperation rates for glaucoma were found to be higher in patients who underwent trabeculectomy with mitomycin C than in patients who underwent tube shunt surgery, according to data from the Tube Versus Trabeculectomy Study. A total 212 patients were included in the TVT Study. Patients were randomized into two groups — 107 patients in the tube shunt group (350 mm2 Baerveldt glaucoma implant) and 105 patients in the trabeculectomy with MMC group (0.4 mg/mL).
