Combination nepafenac, dexamethasone treatment reduces macular inflammation

Treatment with a combination of topical nepafenac and dexamethasone reduced macular swelling and inflammation in patients after cataract surgery, according to study findings. The prospective study included 152 patients who were at low risk for postoperative inflammation after cataract surgery. Seventy-five patients were randomly assigned to receive nepafenac ophthalmic suspension 0.1% in combination with dexamethasone 0.1%, and 77 patients were randomly assigned to receive dexamethasone 0.1% and placebo. The researchers used optical coherence tomography to assess patients’ postoperative swelling of the macula.
