Young Ophthalmologists at NOK: A great success with much to take home
I had the exciting experience of being involved in organizing the Young Ophthalmologists (YO) sessions at the Nordic Congress of Ophthalmology (NOK) in Stockholm. It was the first time we were given the space to hold our own sessions. The idea came from Stefan Seregard, MD, PhD, president of the European Society of Ophthalmology (SOE), who is a wonderful advocate of YO.At the time of the SOE congress in Copenhagen, I discussed possibilities with Anthony Khawaja, current chair of SOE YO. Anthony and I brainstormed and decided what topics should be covered, and then we drafted a program. I wrote many emails and received a lot of positive responses from my young colleagues in the Nordic area. Within around 6 weeks, we had finalized a very good program. It was such a wonderful situation as a YO myself to invite people to talk and ask some of them to be involved in comoderating sessions. A lot of them were taken aback and said, “I have never done this before,” and I said “Come on, we’ll find a way, we’ll make it happen.”
