Posterior polar cataracts, when encountered in a surgical scenario, necessitate a lot of caution and care to be exercised intraoperatively. The incidence of posterior capsule rupture, or PCR, as stated in peer-reviewed literature varies from 0% to 36%, and the surgeon needs to exert extra caution because the capsule tends to be weak and predisposes to a PCR with minimal pressure; in addition, pre-existing defects are often present.
