Corneal changes seen with contact lens wear after cataract surgery in Infant Aphakia Treatment Study

The use of extended-wear contact lenses after cataract extraction in infants may lead to increased endothelial cell density, coefficient of variation of cell area and central corneal thickness, according to the Infant Aphakia Treatment Study. The randomized, controlled clinical trial evaluated the treatment of unilateral cataracts, comparing 52 infants treated with aphakic contact lenses and 53 infants treated with primary IOL implants vs. fellow eyes at the 5-year examination.
