Scleral buckling effective in specific cases of retinoblastoma-induced retinal detachment

NICE, France — Retinoblastoma-induced retinal detachment that occurs in advanced cases treated with intra-arterial chemotherapy can be effectively reduced in a high percentage of cases by scleral buckling surgery, according to a study presented at the Euretina meeting. A retrospective study was conducted on all consecutive patients presenting with a diagnosis of retinoblastoma at the Jules Gonin Eye Hospital between November 2008 and October 2014, accounting for a total of 30 eyes of 30 patients with age ranging between 6 years and 87 years.
