From Vision 2020 to universal eye health

According to the World Health Organization, an estimated 285 million people are visually impaired worldwide, with 39 million people who are blind and 246 million people who have low vision. About 80% of all visual impairment can be avoided or cured.In May 2013, the 66th World Health Assembly endorsed the WHO 2014-2019 Global Action Plan (GAP) for the prevention of avoidable blindness and visual impairment.
