Genetic factors, vitamin C intake influence cataract progression

Researchers reported the progression of nuclear cataract over a 10-year period is influenced by genetic factors, with a heritability of 35% in addition to vitamin C and manganese intake, according to a study in Ophthalmology. The cross-sectional nuclear cataract and dietary measurements were available for 2,054 white female twins from the TwinsUK cohort. Researchers utilized follow-up cataract measurements for 324 of the twins.
