CMS assesses office-based cataract surgery
Due to improvements in technology, methods and safety, cataract surgery moved from primarily hospital-based settings to ambulatory surgery centers in the last two decades. Today, some surgeons are considering performing cataract surgery in office-based settings.Proponents say that cataract surgery is more cost-effective for surgeons and more comfortable and convenient for patients in an office than in an ASC. Others have concerns about patient safety and the economic viability of office-based cataract surgery.
