Team-based perioperative model reduced surgical readmissions

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. — Implementation of the Perioperative Surgical Home model has demonstrated encouraging results as a method to reduce surgical readmissions and length of stay in a hospital, as well as improve patient satisfaction, according to a speaker at the Interdisciplinary Conference on Orthopedic Value-Based Care. “I think we all know that we have a problem with health care costs. The health care costs in the United States has increased since 1980, but it is not just a problem in the United States. The United Kingdom’s health care costs have increased from 6% to 9% over the past decade,” Zeev N. Kain, MD, MBA, co-course director of the meeting, said here. “I think the only way we are going to move on to be successful is to [focus on the patients].”
