First Argus II procedure in Asia performed

The Argus II retinal prosthesis system has been implanted in the first patient in Asia at the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan, according to a Second Sight press release.Argus II, which provides electrical stimulation of viable retinal cells to induce visual perception in patients with profound retinitis pigmentosa, has been previously approved and offered in several countries worldwide, including the U.S., as well as Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom.
