Miniature telescope device implanted in patient who previously had cataract surgery

The first procedure to exchange a previously implanted IOL with the Implantable Miniature Telescope in a patient with age-related macular degeneration was successfully completed, according to a VisionCare press release.The Implantable Miniature Telescope is the only FDA-approved surgical device for end-stage macular degeneration. In January, the FDA approved an investigational device exemption for this new U.S. clinical study. The implant is currently contraindicated in patients who previously had any intraocular or corneal surgery.
