What ophthalmologists need to know about coronavirus

Ophthalmologists who see patients with conjunctivitis should be alert to the need for further evaluation as the number of people infected with the new coronavirus, COVID-19, continue to grow.
According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, these patients should be evaluated for accompanying respiratory symptoms as well as a history of recent international travel, particularly to China, or contact with people recently returned from China.
The virus causes severe respiratory infections, including pneumonia, and patients can present with respiratory illness, fever, cough, shortness of breath
