Good outcomes seen after corneal transplantation in patients older than 90 years

Corneal transplantation is a safe procedure for patients older than 90 years, with significant visual improvement and graft survival of 88% at 12 months, according to a study performed at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute.
“Corneal opacities are among the most common causes of blindness, and decreased vision is associated with a higher fall risk in the elderly population,” Garry Levine, MD, said at the virtual European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons winter meeting.
