WAIKOLOA, Hawaii — Uday Devgan, MD, offered advice on when and how to use capsular tension rings in cataract surgery at Hawaiian Eye 2022.
The first sign that a patient may benefit from a capsular tension ring is wrinkling.
“If that capsule is wrinkling, it’s not taut despite putting in viscoelastic,” Devgan said.
Citing Kenneth Rosenthal, MD, Devgan said that the ring should be inserted “as late as possible but as early as you need it.” Although inserting the ring at the beginning of surgery may make it easier to remove the nucleus, it may cause the cortex to
