Union membership among health care professionals in the United States, including physicians, is on the rise, which could have seismic implications in work patterns and patient care in an increasingly corporatized medical system.
“The trend toward physician unionization can be seen as part of changes in the U.S. health care system over the past 3 decades, which has been marked by consolidation of hospitals and health systems, consolidation of insurers, and private equity investment,” Allan Gibofsky, MD, JD, MACR, FACP, FCLM, professor of medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine, and
