For patients with aniridia, consider artificial iris implant

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. — Consider using an artificial iris implant in patients with congenital or acquired aniridia, Karolinne M. Rocha, MD, PhD, told Healio at Kiawah Eye.
An implant allows ophthalmologists to perform certain suture techniques in cases in which this normally would not be possible. Rocha overviewed the types of devices and reviewed surgical techniques.

“When you are doing the implant in the bag, remember to stain the capsule with trypan blue and remember to use a [capsular tension ring],” she said.
