Ophthalmologists need to be familiar with differences between women’s, men’s eyes

I was fascinated to learn a few years ago that AI could reliably determine the sex of an individual when analyzing a fundus photograph.
The key difference between the sexes was the size and distribution of the retinal veins and arteries. So, the anatomy of women’s and men’s eyes are not identical, with women having a slightly smaller and less vascular eye.
Women have a higher risk than men for blindness during their lifetime. One key reason is that women live longer, making them more susceptible to age-related eye diseases. (Read more...)
