Facial contours impact visual field testing for glaucoma

AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. — A patient’s facial contours can impact their visual field during glaucoma testing, according to a speaker at the Women in Ophthalmology Summer Symposium.
Cheryl Khanna, MD, of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., said far peripheral field defects are very common and mapping them is an important part of tracking glaucoma progression. However, measuring far peripheral fields can be challenging due to a lack of a normative database and variability among patients, she said.
