Corneal endothelial cell transplantation comes to fruition

COPENHAGEN, Denmark — Following the approval and commercial launch of Vyznova, corneal endothelial cell transplantation has taken off in Japan and offers potential benefits for a number of conditions.
“We can now create the cultured cells for at least 2,000 patients from one pair of donor corneas,” Shigeru Kinoshita, MD, PhD, told Healio at the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons meeting.

Kinoshita, of Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine in Japan, pioneered the research and development of corneal endothelial cell therapy. He said that cultured cells must have
