Early detection, prompt intervention of cataracts needed

COPENHAGEN, Denmark — Cataract surgery is a low-risk, low-cost intervention that can improve the quality of life in people with dementia and may prevent progression to some extent.
During a symposium at the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons meeting, Cathleen M. McCabe, MD, and Paul G. Ursell, MD, strongly advocated for early detection and prompt intervention of cataracts in patients with dementia.
