
NEW YORK — Secondary techniques are needed to address macular holes in patients with myopia, according to a speaker at OSN New York Retina.
Christina Y. Weng, MD, MBA, FASRS, said myopia has reached epidemic proportions, and it is increasing in prevalence across the United States and around the world.
“In the United States, the prevalence is nearing 45% and exceeding 90% in parts of Asia,” she said. “In fact, by some estimates, by 2050, myopia is going to affect about 50% of the global population, with one in 10 people expected to have high myopia.”
