
WAILEA, Hawaii — Perfluorocarbon liquid represents “a big advance” in the surgical approach to subretinal fluid removal when performing vitrectomy for primary retinal detachment repair, Carl D. Regillo, MD, told colleagues at Retina 2021.
“It’s very well tolerated, very useful, for many of our cases, even in primary RDs under certain circumstances,” he said.
Regillo uses perfluorocarbon fluid in about one-third of his cases and uses posterior drainage retinotomy and direct aspiration through a pre-existing peripheral break in other cases.
