COPENHAGEN, Denmark — Switching to reusable phaco cassettes reduces waste and saves money, according to a study presented at the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons meeting.
Elie Motulsky, MD, PhD, FEBO, of the ophthalmology department at Erasme Hospital, Brussels, said sustainability is an important topic in ophthalmology, but a lot of the focus has been on carbon footprint. To fully understand the environmental impact of eye care, more research is needed, he said.
“Research is really important not only because we need innovative technology with biodegradable materials but
