Leadership in medicine during uncertain times requires ‘vision, courage and conviction’

CHICAGO — Thriving in complexity, connecting ideas across fields and fostering collaboration are key qualities for leadership, a speaker at the Women in Medicine Summit said.
Monica L. Lypson, MD, MHPE, vice dean for education and Rolf H. Scholdager Professor of Medicine at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, told attendees that leaders must be able to adapt quickly and integrate diverse perspectives in a world defined by volatility, uncertainty, chaos and ambiguity, often referred to as the “VUCA” model.
