Positive outcomes seen with intravitreal gene therapy for wet AMD

VIENNA — In a phase 2 study, SAR402663 gene therapy for wet age-related macular degeneration showed positive efficacy and safety interim results with a single in-office intravitreal injection.
With a medium dose of SAR402663, there was a 97% reduction in treatment burden, with more than 90% of patients not needing supplemental anti-VEGF injections, Arshad M. Khanani, MD, MA, FASRS, said at the Euretina congress.
Researchers have observed positive functional and anatomic results with the therapy, and the safety profile appears good.
