Preloaded tissue for DSEK minimizes complications, endothelial cell loss
SAN DIEGO — Tissue prepared and preloaded into an insertion device by an eye bank can be used uneventfully in Descemet’s stripping endothelial keratoplasty, a speaker said here.“Intraoperative and postoperative complications were minimal, and endothelial cell loss was similar to what has been reported in the past with other techniques,” Sotiria Palioura, MD, PhD, said at the World Cornea Congress. “And using preloaded tissue reduces supplies needed, reduces the time of the surgery and reduces intraoperative tissue manipulation by the surgeon. This underscores the importance of ... collaboration between the cornea surgeon and the eye bank to improve patient care.”
