Carl Zeiss Meditec to collaborate with Oraya Therapeutics

Carl Zeiss Meditec has agreed to collaborate with Oraya Therapeutics and invest in the company’s low-energy radiotherapy treatment for wet age-related macular degeneration, according to a Carl Zeiss Meditec press release.Under the collaboration agreement, Carl Zeiss Meditec will finance the implementation of Oraya’s growth strategy for up to 2 years and receive rights to participate in the company, reaching up to a majority stake after 2 years, the release said.

Man presents with unilateral decreased vision and eye pain

A 67-year-old man presented with complaints of persistent, dull ocular pain, redness, photophobia, tearing and decreased vision in his right eye for 1 week. He reported the symptoms began after mild blunt trauma from his granddaughter’s toy.Ocular history included controlled mixed-mechanism glaucoma previously treated with laser iridotomy. He was a 25-year insulin-dependent diabetic without any retinopathy. Medical history included severe coronary artery disease previously treated with cardiac bypass and restrictive lung disease. Computer program may offer second opinion at bedside for plus disease

A computer program shows promise at being able to provide a second opinion of plus disease at the bedside, according to a study.ROPtool was used during routine retinopathy of prematurity examinations of 65 premature infants, for a total of 464 examinations in 129 eyes. Travatan approved in EU for pediatric glaucoma patients

The European Commission has granted Travatan eye drop solution an additional indication to treat pediatric patients with ocular hypertension or pediatric glaucoma, Alcon announced in a Novartis press release.The new indication of Travatan (40 µg/mL travoprost) is to decrease IOP in patients between the ages of 2 months and less than 18 years. It was previously approved for adult patients with ocular hypertension or open-angle glaucoma.
