Visual acuity results better with DMEK than DSAEK at 6 months

Descemet’s membrane endothelial keratoplasty offered better visual results than Descemet’s stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty, despite a slightly higher rate of endothelial cell loss, primary graft failures and re-bubbling procedures, according to a study.The retrospective study, reported in Ophthalmology by Ebru C. Hamzaoglu, MD, and colleagues at Devers Eye Institute, Portland, Oregon, included 100 eyes that underwent DMEK and 100 eyes that underwent DSAEK for Fuchs’ corneal dystrophy.
