Novel technique allows atraumatic removal of resistant cortical vitreous adhesions

COPENHAGEN, Denmark — A novel technique allows removal of strongly attached cortical vitreous in a minimal amount of time with no trauma, according to one surgeon."Thorough removal of the cortical vitreous is essential in several surgical situations, such as [diabetic macular edema], macular hole and macular pucker," Athanasios Nikolakopoulos, MD, said at the meeting of the European Society of Ophthalmology.
