Formulas unsuitable for predicting PVR after retinal detachment surgery
Formulas that predict development of proliferative vitreoretinopathy after retinal detachment surgery were not accurate enough for regular clinical use, according to a study. The prospective study included clinical variables from 1,047 patients with primary rhegmatogenous retinal detachment who participated in the Retina 1 Project, which was conducted in Spain and Portugal. The data were used to validate four previously published formulas, F1 to F4.Investigators used receiver-operating characteristic curves to validate the quality of the formulas and measures of discrimination, precision and calibration. They also determined agreement between formulas.
