Large analysis defines predictors of late AMD risk

The predictors of development of late age-related macular degeneration are based on age, sex, 26 single nucleotide polymorphisms, smoking, body mass index and early AMD phenotype, according to a prediction model.An analysis of the Three Continent AMD Consortium included three population-based studies, the Rotterdam Study, the Beaver Dam Eye Study and the Blue Mountains Eye Study, which comprised 10,106 participants who were analyzed using fundus photographs, genotype data and follow-up data.
