Silicone oil may help manage retinal detachment associated with endophthalmitis

Silicone oil may be a useful adjunct during initial or subsequent treatment in patients who have endophthalmitis and concurrent or delayed-onset retinal detachment, according to a study.Two groups of patients with endophthalmitis and retinal detachment at presentation or during follow-up received silicone oil as part of their treatment plans. Twenty patients were diagnosed with retinal detachment at presentation (group 1), and 73 patients were diagnosed during follow-up (group 2).
