February is Age-related Macular Degeneration Month

Age-related macular degeneration, characterized by the loss of central vision, affects 1.65 million individuals in the United States and is the leading cause of vision loss in people older than 65 years, according to Friends for Sight, a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving sight.
During February, which is Age-related Macular Degeneration Month, eye care organizations encourage individuals to get regular eye exams with an ophthalmologist to detect possible signs of AMD, as well as remind people with AMD that there are treatments that can save their sight.
