Sony is releasing a new two-piece full HD surgical video camera intended for a variety of settings, including surgical centers and exam rooms. The device is particularly effective in low-light applications, such as ophthalmic posterior surgical procedures and other situations where direct light is hard to place within the depths of a surgical scene.

The camera uses three 1/2.8 type Exmor R CMOS sensors which deliver a sensitivity of F20 with a 63 dB signal-to-noise ratio, all in 1920 x 1080 high definition.
The camera includes a high dynamic range (HDR) mode for improved colors and more natural contrast, which is particularly beneficial when viewing wet and slimy tissues and anatomies.
There are six preset profiles for use in ophthalmic surgery and special adjustments, such as auto exposure, to help tune the system to achieve ideal imaging.
