Subretinal gene therapy offers new treatments for inherited retinal degenerations

Gene therapies for inherited retinal degenerations may offer new treatments for the estimated one in 2,000 patients affected by this heterogenous group of diseases, according to a speaker.
“We are optimistic that new gene therapy options may be available for our pediatric patients in the next few years. Gene therapy brings new hope to patients and families for treating IRDs,” Cagri G. Besirli, MD, PhD, said at the virtual OSN New York Retina meeting.
