Drug-releasing contact lens for allergy itch relief receives approval in Japan

The Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare approved Johnson & Johnson Vision’s Acuvue Theravision with Ketotifen, a drug-releasing combination contact lens designed for both vision correction and allergic eye itch relief.
This is the first regulatory approval for a drug-releasing technology with an antihistamine for patients with allergic conjunctivitis, according to a press release from Johnson & Johnson Vision.
The daily disposable contact lens is made of etafilcon A material, the company said in the release.
