Progression of myopia in children may be related to inflammation, according to a study out of the University of Oklahoma.
Researchers found slower myopia progression in patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) who were taking systemic anti-inflammatory medications compared with a control group. Higher levels and earlier onset of myopia was observed in patients with JIA not taking anti-inflammatories.
“People have been looking at things to do to stop myopic progression for decades ... but the bottom line is we don’t have a really reproducible, consistently effective way,” study coauthor
