A 22-year-old woman of East Asian descent was referred to Tufts Medical Center for bilateral blurry vision over the past 7 years.
She had seen four different optometrists over the past year who were unable to correct her visual acuity to better than 20/40. Given a lack of explanation for why her vision was unable to be corrected beyond 20/40, she was referred for further evaluation.
Since the onset of symptoms, her blurry vision has remained subjectively stable. She denied photopsia, nyctalopia and scotomas. She had no history of strabismus, amblyopia or patching.
Her medical history was notable
