Plateau iris syndrome indication for endocycloplasty

NEW ORLEANS — Plateau iris syndrome is an indication for improving angle architecture with endocycloplasty, which shrinks the ciliary processes, Ramesh S. Ayyala, MD, told colleagues at Glaucoma Day preceding the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery meeting. “Endocycloplasty has been used primarily as an adjunct with phacoemulsification cataract extraction and may be indicated for plateau iris if ciliary processes are directed anteriorly,” Ayyala said.

Bowman’s layer transplantation improves visual outcomes in patients with keratoconus

NEW ORLEANS — Visual outcomes improved in patients with advanced keratoconus who underwent Bowman’s layer transplantation, according to a speaker here. “One thing that we all know is that in the early to intermediate phases of keratoconus, most of the visual dysfunction can be corrected by wearing a contact lens, but often with progression of disease may become so bulbously irregular that continued contact lens wear becomes either impossibly uncomfortable or simply ineffectual,” Jack S. Parker Jr., MD, said during Cornea Day preceding the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery meeting.

NEW ORLEANS — Reliance Medical Products and Haag-Streit USA announced the launch of the I-OPS In-Office Procedure System at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery meeting here.The I-OPS is a modular instrument delivery system with a durable tray and space for up to nine interchangeable inserts intended to allow physicians to perform injections and other minor in-office procedures more efficiently, according to a press release. The I-OPS arm fits almost any manufacturer’s stand pole and is moveable, according to the release.

Clarity releases IOL formula for IntraOp Wavefront Aberrometer

NEW ORLEANS — Clarity Medical Systems is launching the HOLOS Barrett IOL Formula here at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery meeting, the company announced in a press release.The formula is an update to the HOLOS IntraOp Wavefront Aberrometer, which supplies real-time, dynamic aphakic measurements during cataract surgery, Barry J.
