Giant retinal tears amenable to surgical repair despite high reoperation rate

Surgical repair was more successful in giant retinal tears that were smaller in size, according to a study.The retrospective study included 79 eyes of 77 patients with giant retinal tears who underwent pars plana vitrectomy with gas or silicone oil tamponade; 67 eyes (87%) underwent an encircling scleral buckle.
