MRI Brain Scans in Two Patients with the Argus II Retinal Prosthesis

The Argus II retinal prosthesis for improving the visual function of patients with end-stage retinitis pigmentosa (Second Sight Medical Products) received its Conformité Européenne marking in March 2011, and US Food and Drug Administration approval as a humanitarian device in the United States in February 2013. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a frequently used investigative tool. Of the 30 million MRIs performed annually in the United States, 22% are brain scans.
