PARIS — Generic glaucoma medications are an option for treatment, but specialists should discuss the choice with their patients, evaluate tolerance and return to brand-name drops if necessary, according to one speaker. Almost the entire range of glaucoma medications is available as generics. The price is about 50% less than equivalent brand-name drugs, and some of them, such as latanoprost, have gained rapid acceptance in France, covering 50% of the total sales of the drug in less than 1 year.
European study shows positive results for inlay in emmetropic presbyopic patients
PARIS – Results of the EuroKLEAR multicenter showed the safety and efficacy of the ReVision Optics Raindrop aspheric corneal inlay in emmetropic presbyopic patients. The inlay, formerly known as the Vue+ and PresbyLens, has a diameter of 2 mm, is 30 µm thick and is designed to gently reshape the anterior cornea, providing near and intermediate vision in the nondominant eye.
Lenticule extraction technique spares stronger parts of cornea, lowering risk of secondary ectasia
PARIS — ReLex small incision lenticule extraction, developed by Carl Zeiss Meditec, is the only photoablation technique that might realistically be expected to reduce the risk of secondary ectasia, according to one surgeon here. “It is the only technique that preserves the Bowman, the anterior and middle stroma,” Etienne Hachet, MD, said at the meeting of the French Society of Ophthalmology.
